Message of the Prophets is herein shown.  “Plumb Line”, metaphor of Amos, is below the crown, symbol of the alliance between King Ahab and Queen Jezebel.  Ellipse of distorted Star of David and Phoenician Cedars depict vacillation inveighed against the Prophets who pleaded for no political alliances.  Prophesies proved correct shown as red triangles of invasion by Babylonia.  Subsequent exile of Ten Lost Tribes of Israel are the colored circles.

Messages of the major Prophets are presented.  Sword turning into a plowshare, Isaiah*s proclamation: “And they shall beat their swords into plowshares, and their spears into pruning hooks.”  Steaming cauldron; message of Jeremiah; “What seest thou?” and I said “I see a seething pot and the face thereof is from the north.”  Weeping willows, cry of Prophet and “At the waters of Babylon there we sat and there we cried.”

Return to Zion was under Ezra and Nehemiah, who rebuilt the walls of Jerusalem as well as the spirit of the people.  The Scroll of Torah is flanked by the Prophets and Holy Writings.  The Torah was again made the constitution and fundamental law of Judea featured by blue sunburst, rays of glory, and rebuilt walls and turrets.

In the newly erected communal buildings the people met to celebrate Sabbaths, Holidays, recite prayers and psalms, and discuss community problems.  Judges held court and marriages were solemnized in new local centers of life which came to be known as synagogues.  The open Torah, Menorah and variegated color forms directed towards the focal blue building symbolize its threefold function: House of Study, House of Prayer, and House of Assembly.

IN PERSIA

The Persian period of tranquility was interrupted by the machinations of Haman, first minister to King Ahasuerus.  His scheme to have all the Jews of Persia killed was foiled by Mordecai and Queen Esther, whose exploits are recorded in “Scroll of Esther”, represented by Sephardic Megillah with parchment extended.  Along the base is Shushan, the capitol of Persia.  Included in the thematic representations are a grogger and a hamantash, traditional elements of Purim festivities.

Judaism and Hellenism

The destruction of the Second Temple, the sacking of Jerusalem by the Roman Legions, a Roman coin bearing inscription, “Judea Capta”, depicts the victory of Titus.  The Great Menorah and Holy Trumpets carried off to Rome are the themes of the longest exile of Jewish history.  On the right is shown Massada, the fortress of last stand, which, after a long siege, was captured by the Fifth Roman Legion.

The Hasmoneans

Central focus is the large, three-tiered arc, the seating form and order of the Sanhedrin, the chief Jewish legislative and Judaical body.  Shown are: an open book, symbol of Talmud; seats of the President and Chief Officer; and in yellow shapes, the two court stenographers.  The Hasmonean Dynasty, coin and hammer, was both an achievement and threat marked by red triangle.
